About Zenith Bank
Zenith Bank was founded in May 1990 by Jim Ovia, and started banking operations in July 1990 with a start up capital of $4 million, during a time of Government liberation of the banking sector where over twenty banking licenses were granted to investors by central bank in a year. Zenith Bank started operations using a residential house in Victoria Island which was later refurbished to a banking hall, the head office has remained in Lagos, Victoria Island having over 500 branches and business offices across Nigeria. Zenith Bank increased it’s capitalization to 500 million naira in 1997, following a directive for banking industries to shore up their startup capital. Zenith Bank has always experienced rapid growth since inception. Zenith Bank accepted the use of the internet for promotion of the use of online banking by customers and marketing of financial services, this making Zenith bank one of the earliest companies to adapt to internet banking. Subsequent to the successful Initial Public Offering, Zenith bank became a public limited company on 17th June, 2004 and was listed on Nigerian stock exchange on 21st October, of the same year. In 2013 on the London stock exchange Zenith bank listed $850 million worth of it’s shares at $6.8 each. In March, 2007 Zenith was accredited by Financial Service Authority (FSA) of the United Kingdom to establish Zenith Bank (UK) Limited as a subsidiary of Zenith Bank United Kingdom. The bank has grown to be one of the leading financial institutions in Nigeria and Africa at large as it ranks 12th in Africa with total assets of $22,212 million as at December 2020.
